As promised long ago, i should make some write up on things i saw in Cebit 2007.

I only spent some time at the telecommunication hall. my top choice is Samsung booth. They are really going all out in getting top places in the mobile phone arena. Look at the following shots - they not only look nice, but also has all the needed features:

Samsung SGH-F500Samsung smartphonesSamsung Blackjack

For example, on the left above is their latest (soon to be released?) TV phone. This model is not the same as what we saw last year. It is thin and compact, and i have the impression i am looking at a TV Ipod. yeah, so thin and sleek is this baby. a twist and pull then you have your very own DVB-H Mobile TV! when in normal mode, it looks no different than a thin mobile phone like ipod or the SE W880i. The unit on the right is their model to be compared to the HTC windows mobile phone (erm, o2 neo or o2 trion?). Again, the finishing is impressive. It is not bulky and has keyboard built-in, suitable for the business people (and geeks who just need their new gadgets to do everything on the move :P) if you don't like such design, the Samsung blackjack might be the answer. I am not really a fan of blackberry phone (until now, read on) but i must say something like the blackjack will make my mind change. Only thing now is the WM5 platform... but heck, if it does the job, i don't mind (especially when you decide to give me one as gift :P)

Samsung SGH-U100The nice Samsung girl

What really caught my eyes, is the samsung Ultra series. The SGH-U100 is not just sleek, it is also darn thin. if you look carefully at the photo, it is said to be as thin as 5.9mm. yeah, that is like, erm, very the slim. I put it on my hand, as requested by the nice lady who showed me around with great explanation, and it felt just like paper. Paper! now that is all the 3G goodies all in a slim package. I now have the fear of breaking the phone into two :)

BlackBerry stand

When i talk about blackberry, i always have this impression of big bulky smartphones with many keys on them. This impression is now officially changed. at the blackberry booth i finally have my hands on some of their nice phones.

Blackberry 8800a game @ Blackberry 8800

Having the Blackberry 8800 first tim in my hand is a wow. it is not that big after all. But the screen real estate, and its software proves its worth. I tried it a little with some menu navigation and keying in stuffs. No wonder companies are buying this for their employees - people can do much more on this little device without the need of bringing lots of equipment along. Even games are well displayed on it :P heheh

BlackBerry Pearl 8100If you don't like broader type, you can try out the Blackberry pearl 8100. as shown on the right, it is not much bigger than many phones nowadays, and has the same system and perhaps most features as the 8800. Having the pearl on my hand is really making me think - how can i make softwares for this baby, and start using it as i go around from place to place. i think blackberry has done it right - the niche market. Targetted on business people, it has provided both software and hardware to suit their needs. It is a close world as compared to others, but for those who just want to get things done, they will not go wrong with these phones. i have seen push email in action and i can say people who need to attend to issues anywhere anytime, will appreciate such features. Together with a nice phone, this combination will be a killer. Note-to-self - in research we need to identify such niche too. Don't just build things that works so so :)

I will write more on SE phones and other things in the coming posts. Stay tuned.
